Axolotlian Axolotl
The Axolotlian axolotl (Ambystoma Atlantic) is a unique species of axolotl found in all lakes, streams, rivers, and ponds across Axolotlia. They can breath seawater and crawl on land when it is raining, allowing them to reach every body of water on the islands.
It has more gills than the Mexican axolotl, usually 8 total, and is on average, more intelligent, due to its more complex brain, they are very playful and make great pets. Their 8 gills are also longer than the Mexican axolotl, and their legs are stronger.
They are often more energetic than the Mexican axolotl, and can often accidentally harm themselves by playing roughly.
There is an estimated million of them in the wild.
Axolotlian Axolotl 2
Why did Axolotlian axolotls evolve the ability to go on land in the rain, essentially undoing their aquatic evolution that abandoned terrestrial adulthood but in a worse way? Because Axolotlia has a ton of stuff on land that axolotls can take advantage of, like refuge from predators, and food sources not seen underwater, and more places to go. Axolotlian axolotls are notoriously curious and might just like going on land in the rain.
It is adorable to watch, because they are so cute on land, little clumsy buddies. Also they are still evolving, just since 1970, researchers have noticed Axolotlian axolotls have been able to go on land with less rain than 1970, and they might be able to go during just fog by 2040, they have also gotten stronger legs since then too.
Axolotlian axolotl features
These are the notable features of the Axolotlian axolotl different from Mexican axolotls.
8 gills instead of 6, the gills are longer as well, allowing more oxygen flow with less water, like during rain, also allowing seawater breathing. Their legs are stronger as well, allowing rudimentary land movement. Their brains are bigger and more complex, allowing for a more playful behavior, curiosity, and land movement, they are quite smart and can do problem solving much better than most amphibians. They also have had their teeth regrow because, land. They have however lost a good amount of their regenerative abilities, the tradeoff of going on land. They also evolved eyelids, that add to the cuteness and keep their eyes wet, guess when, that's right, on land.
As you can see, almost all differences are because land movement, something only possible because of the stupid amount of rain seen in Axolotlia.
